Each and every day there are opportunities for you to learn, no matter what your circumstances are. I know you are facing many challenges, and at times school may not seem interesting to you. But anything is interesting if you are interested.
The 2011-2012 school year is now upon us, and I have a question for you: Do you have a hunger to learn? Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the term learn in this way: To gain knowledge or understanding…
It is no secret that from an early age, predictions are being made on you and your peers. Predictions of your academic ability and dropout rate, as well as predictions of your behavior and whether or not you can make it through a school day without getting in some trouble. in this way: To gain knowledge or understanding…
When problems come your way, remember this; you must succeed! Why? Because if you fail – others fail also!
There were individuals who came before you, that had a hunger to learn. Their hunger to learn, allowed them to get their education, accomplish great things, and blaze a trail for you to be able to learn. Are you hungry, yet? Having a hunger to learn takes you from just going to school, to graduating from school. Going to school is one thing – but graduating is totally different.
I’ve only just a minute, Only sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, can’t refuse it, Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it, But it’s up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it, Give an account if I abuse it, Just a tiny little minute, But eternity is in it.
-Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays
As you go through this school year, with a hunger to learn,my advice to you is this: Do not get confused and think that things should just come your way without hard work. And don’t, not even for one minute, confuse money and success. The purpose of education should never be confused with money. Money cannot be the only purpose of education. If it was, everything that makes money illegally would be ok, but it’s not! A proper education is more valuable than money.
After you have a hunger to learn, the final question becomes: What are you willing to pay? What are you willing to pay to fulfill your dreams of becoming a doctor, a lawyer, basketball player, football player, veterinarian, teacher, or whatever it is that you want to do? What are you willing to do to make this happen?
What are you willing to work hard for, so that years from now, there is a school building named after you?
Approach this school year with a hunger to learn! Stay hungry until you do something great; because you are great! You aren’t in school by accident. You aren’t in school just to be in school. You are in school to create opportunities for yourself. You are there because someone loves you enough to see the importance of you having an education –whether they had one or not. As long as you keep a hunger to learn, there will always be plenty of food (education) for you to eat.
There is nothing, nobody, or anything greater than YOU!
